The Role of Advocacy in Civil Society

[Article] Zompetti, J.P. 2006. The Role of Advocacy in Civil Society. Argumentation. vol20. pp167-183

My daily quota now is to read an article per day.
Because I look up every English word that I'm not confident about its meaning and write down whole definition of it, it sometimes takes a couple of hours in the morning.
And this is what I read this morning......
daaaa.... too much idealism in a day!
away too fishy......
wish there was explanation how we should create such "third space"...

------------------------------
Civil society for contemporary society should embrace the concept of the third space, as discussed by Bryant (1993), Cohen and Arato (1992), and Hauser and Benoit-Barne (2002). The third space envisions civil society as an autonomous sphere, separate from governmental or economic influence. The third space minimizes the amount of undue influence that can emanate from the state or the market. (p.180)
------------------------------
However, assuming there are enough citizens who have the ability and willingness to engage in civil society, how could their participation be improved? How could civil society be more influential in its relationship to the state and market? How can citizens feel more secure and enthusiastic about their participation? I believe that the skills of advocacy can help answer these questions. (pp.180-181)
